Epic Swim Maui Expedition

An unprecedented expeditionary swim around the Island of Maui.
Celebrating Hawaiian Culture in Honour Of Duke Kahanamoku, The Original Waterman.

Over the course of July 2024, I will be joining 11 swimmers from around the world in a circumnavigation of Maui as part of Epic Swim Maui – the world’s first expedition swim around Maui, and a direct call to action for Global Ocean Health.

The Elite of Open Water Swimmers from 6 continents swim together and camp in Maui’s remote wilderness areas, raising awareness for the challenges our oceans are facing. The coastal region of Maui’s west side faces unprecedented challenges due to the recent wildfires. The expeditionary swim will produce real time ocean data for our science partners and is part of the global PFAS study by Hereon Institute, Germany.

More broadly, Epic Swim Maui is partnering with governments, Hawaiian Elders, international science, universities, technology manufacturers and industry for progressive and transformative ocean solutions. For instance, Epic Swim Maui is currently working with its partners and University of Hawaii on active monitoring of the direct impacted ocean environment.

Epic Swim Maui is the foundation from which a UN Ocean Decade Program on regenerative resource management from Small Island Developing States, Least-Developed Countries and Landlocked Developing Countries will be drawn up and introduced (https://oceandecade.org/events/epic-swim-maui/.)
